Product: key and wind up mechanism in a clock
Function: Winding the clock up

Interaction
- Process of interaction:
1. insert the key in
2. turn it clockwise until threshold reached
3. pull the key out

- Type : push, insert, turn, pull
- Force : human, small, applied force depends on size of internal springs and mechanism, and on the state of the winding up. To be applied clockwise

- Human manipulation : the key is handled with three fingers, forefinger and middlefinger on one side, and opponent thumb on the other. Then a clockwise torsion of the forearm is applied to wind up. When the torsion becomes uncomfortable, the key is released and the forearm comes back to the starting position. The body process repeats until the mechanical opponent force doesn’t let you continue (the clock is winded up)

- Configuration : the key is formed by three parts, the handle, the stick, and the inserting part. The handle of the key is flat, with a thinner part in the middle, 5cm long. The stick is placed at the center of the handle and has a cylinder form. The inserting part has a cubic form, is very small and comes out of the small stick.
- Surface properties: it’s metallic, smooth

Sound

The sound is quite sharp and metallic. Mostly impulsive, with metallic and wooden resonance.
There are two informative sounds, the inserting key sound, where the click informs the correctness of the action, and the wind up sound, which inform of the state of the charge.

Context
Location : antique store, near niederdorfstrasse. The showroom is in a basement with a circular vault. Walls are very absorbing.
Soundscape : the clock was placed on a table, in front of a light. The microfone was placed at 50 cm of distance to avoid unexpected clicks. There were only some hums coming from the air conditioning system.

Function: containing solid

Interaction
- Process of interaction: force applied to the mechanism until the treshold is reached
- Type : pushing, pulling
- Force : human, small, slow or fast...
- Human manipulation : two fingers are used, one as lever and the other as pivot to push o r pull the plate
- Configuration : metal plate with a metal cylinder at the basis for better action.
- Surface properties: metal, rough, cold



Sound
- Metal sound with wooden resonances depending on the quantity of things in the case.
- Source: vibrating soilds, hitting sound, friction sound
- Material : dense, not elastic
- percussive sound anticipated by friction

Product: Toy Car
Function: playing / rolling

Interaction
- Process of interaction: applying a pushing force until the car could roll alone for a little distance.
- Type : pushing
- Force : human, small, increasing
- Human manipulation : the car is handled by the top, with one hand. Arm and hand movement is used to apply force to the car and launch it.
- Configuration : old car shape, all made of wood, wheels included. Quite heavy weight. Wheels were not well designed, so they produced lot of friction.
- Surface properties: wooden, rough



Sound
- rolling sound of wheels and internal wooden mechanism: roughness, inharmonic timber, high volume, undefined pitch
- Source: vibrating solids, wood and tiled floor, friction rolling sound.
